Sketch is one of the most joyful comedic art forms…as long as you approach it the right way. In this three hour workshop, you’ll get a crash course in how to get that positive experience from the medium made famous by SNL, Monty Python, Key & Peele, and more greats.
This workshop is geared toward all levels of comedy experience. It focuses on solid writing principles and fun collaboration. And instructor Alex Schmidt will gear the time toward your interests, whether you’re exploring sketch for the first time or refining the short form comedy you already do.
Alex Schmidt is the Head Of Podcasting at Cracked.com, one of the Internet’s most popular comedy brands. He hosts Earwolf’s, The Cracked Podcast, a 2016 Webby Awards Honoree with a monthly live run at UCB Sunset. He also hosts Kurt Vonneguys (featured in The AV Club, Splitsider, LA Weekly), and frequently guests on podcasts like Who Charted, Fake The Nation, Unpopular Opinion, and more.
When off air, Alex Schmidt is a writer-performer with years of digital & live sketch experience. He’s a founding member of house sketch team Gunslinger, performing monthly at LA’s The Pack Theater. He’s staffed at Cracked.com, where he’s written dozens of original comedy sketches and found zero-budget ways to reach millions of viewers. Before that, Alex’s digital team Dollar Pizza was a Funny Or Die Community Partner. His sketch writing also appeared on My Damn Channel, CollegeHumor, and Channel 101. And outside sketch, Alex wrote digital comedy for BBC America, contributed headlines to The Onion and is pleasant to be around.
