About this course:
The Basics of Sketch Comedy Writing class will introduce students to the core tenets of sketch comedy writing. The class will focus on basic sketch forms and concepts, including juxtaposition, heightening, linguistics, absurdism, parody, developing personal voice and revision.
This class will meet on Tuesdays at 6:30-8:30 from January 8 through February 12.

About your instructor: Will Purpura
Will Purpura is a comedian, actor, improviser, writer, producer and teacher. Originally from New York City, he currently resides in Carrboro, North Carolina.
As a stand-up, he has performed at numerous clubs in New York including Dangerfield’s, Gotham Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club. He has been featured in the Devil Cup Comedy Festival, Westside Comedy Festival, Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, Make Me Laugh Festival and Charm City Comedy Festival.
As an improviser, Will has studied at the PIT, UCB and Second City Chicago. He was a company member of two house teams at the PIT and many independent teams.
As an actor, Will has studied at the American Art Theater, with the legendary Wynn Handman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wynn_Handman) and currently, Wendy Ward.
Will attended New York University for film and television writing, where he studied with Charlie Ruben (Seinfeld, Law & Order) and Sabrina Shawan (Monsoon Wedding). He received a BFA in Dramatic Writing. He was accepted twice in the Goldberg Ten-Minute Play Festival (2010, 2011) and was a quarter-finalist in the 2011 Bluecat Screenplay Competition.
He currently serves as Artistic Director of the PIT Chapel Hill.
